Mad props, Valida!
I received my dvd no problem a couple days ago and have already
watched this fine piece of work 5 times. ^_~ I guess I'm just over-enthusiastic
about there being such a great film on the culture I live and love.
It's everything I ever wanted to explain to people...
Thanx for putting your heart into it, it shows!
Peace from this Junglette, *Celeste*

Hey, Valida.
I watched the DVD this weekend and i loved it so much i showed it
to my dad. The word i would use to describe Concentric Beats is
"definitive". It is essential viewing for anyone who cares
anything about drum and bass music. I appreciate the care you took
in outlining every aspect of the culture both
positive and negative. The interviews were at once insightful, humorous
and profound. I loved how you showed the roots of the scene within
the rave culture but how it blossomed into its own seperate identity.
I only wish it was longer.
Great Work!!!!!

[ [[ hello valida ]] ]
I just wanted to thank you for Concentric Beats. I received my copy
yesterday and after watching it for the first time I have to compliment
you on your presentation. It was nice to see a well thought-out,
comprehensive, and entertaining document of a subculture whose energy
has entrapped me since I first discovered it back in the mid-nineties.
When I first moved to LA back in 2000, I immediately got engulfed
into the LA scene, which at the time seemed to be thriving in comparison
to a very small scene that was building in a very jungle ignorant
city known as Denver. I remember being overtaken by the intensity
of the continuously evolving music and the way DJs were spinning
it here compared to the UK. I suddenly found myself eager to spin
it myself and started giving mix tapes to all my friends in hope
that they could get the slightest understanding of what my sudden
obsession with drum & bass music was all about. I find much
of that initial feeling of excitement that I had in my experiences
captured in your movie and I found it to be an excellent representation
of a style of music that most of my friends could never relate to,
or understand. The strange thing is that I remember seeing you film
in LA (Konkrete Jungle, Respect, and Databass). Some of the footage
brought back memories, and it was definitely cool to actually find
myself in one of the scenes (even if I looked like a geek..... ;)
).
Anyway... enough said. I just thought I’d write a little “thank
you” since you so graciously included one with the video.
Much respect.

For what it's worth, I'll share my thoughts. What you've done with
this film is a landmark in breakbeat culture as it overpowers the
globe. Drum and Bass, Dance / E-culture is a brilliant way of life
and generations away we're going to be looked upon as the illest
fucking era. When I first heard of Concentric Beats I was like 'hell
yes, another step in the right direction'. We're all trying to transform
the future here, as a group as well as individually... Obviously,
those who are making the greatest advances (in any love) in the
right direction come across the biggest obstacles. We adore it,
that's why we do it... that's why were here. I love you for creating
it.
Perfection is the child of time.

Dear Valida,
My name is Joseph Pierantoni. I am 21 years old and I am a student
at New York University. I have just recently made my journey into
Jungle after years of Phish tour and tour with the trance fusion
band the Disco Biscuits. I was introduced to this music by a good
friend of mine at school and I immediately fell in love. As I mentioned
before, I came from a similar scene focused on music and dance but
is now only beginning to embrace technology. I finally feel like
I have made it to where I belong and I was so inspired. I am presently
interning at a major film company and this music inspired me so
much that I wanted to document it. I was very happy and a little
sad to see that you have already accomplished this goal. I just
finished reading your thesis and it was wonderful. It gave me a
solid foundation of the history and evolution of this music which
people have tried to articulate but haven't done so well as you
hav! e. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I knew it was a bit foolish
of me to think that no one had ever documented the US Jungle scene
but I was so excited that I hoped no one had. After reading your
thesis I realized that you are far more deserving than me to be
the advocate of this music through the written word as well as film.
I have not seen the film yet and I am going to buy it after I am
done writing to you, but I had to just say my piece to you, show
my admiration, say my congratulations, and even though I am a little
crushed that I missed the opportunity to help you make this film,
I am still inspired by this music and you. Thank you so much. Please
let me know what the status of your project is. I would love to
give it any type of help I can give it. My email is <mailto:jbp220@stern.nyu.edu>jbp220@stern.nyu.edu.
Once again, thank you.
Sincerely,
Joey Pierantoni

valida,
i got the dvd in the mail on friday and wanted to let you know that
i think it's just great!
i don't get out much and most certainly don't rub elbows w/jungle
types here in los angeles, so often i think i'm the only one w/an
insane passion for this music that goes beyond messageboard hype.
the dvd helped me to realize that's not the case and in fact there
is a large community of people who live for drum & bass both
here and nationwide.
respect for your time and for your work.
large up.
Dave

I just wanted to say that was the best documentary on drum and bass
I've ever seen. Kudos for doin such a good job on it. I am a Dnb
Producer / Dj and loved how your video was very accurate on the
scene and how everything that was told about it. I will definately
be tellin everyone I know and people that don't know about it; really
what the whole drum and bass music really is about. I was wondering
if you have any extra footage on any of the DnB producers talkin
about production of DnB. That's would be great if you did, but I
have to run now. have to go post up some thread on how kick ass
this documentry was. Well......
Right after I werk on some beats in the studio! This a another dvd
I can add to my collection of motivational dvds!
Sincerely,
Jon Schommer
